Signing of an agreement with Euskarabidea for the documentation and investigation of bertsolarism in Navarra
- Thus, the work carried out for years by the Navarre Association of Bertsolarism Supporters for the collection and availability of researchers of the heritage that bertsolarism generates in Navarra will receive for the first time the recognition and financing of the institutions.
For years, the Navarra Association of Bertsolaris, following the objective of postponing Bertsolaris, considered the documentation and research as the basis of its activity. Since then, the association has worked on the collection and documentation of the heritage generated by Bertsolarism in the territory. Around 200 Bertsolarism events are held in Navarra throughout the year, of which the association of Bertsolarism fans is challenged to document a significant sample of them (audio and video recordings, photographs, posters, transcription of programs, data collection...). Biographies of persons related to bertsolaris (bertsolaris, judges, gaiters, organizers) are also updated annually and nineteen are organized.
In this regard, the partnership has the indispensable collaboration of the Xenpelar Documentation Centre (XDZ). Founded in 1991, the XDZ collects, organizes and socializes the heritage of Bertsolarism, with the aim of promoting research carried out at all levels and from all points of view. The association groups the heritage according to the criteria established by the XDZ, forming the contemporary Corpus of Bertsolarism. Thus, in addition to being the basic foundation for the generational transmission of bertsolarism, it establishes a documentary basis for conducting all types of research.
Now, for the first time, this work will be recognized and financed by the Government of Navarra through the agreement signed between the association of bertsolaris fans and the Navarro Institute of the Basque Vascuence for the development of the program of research and documentation of bertsolarism of Navarra. The agreement will last until 10 November 2022 and has a budget of 40,000 euros from the General Budgets of Navarra of 2022. This convention, in addition to providing resources for the documentation of the abovementioned bertsolarism, provides for a research work based on this fund and that will specifically focus on the investigation of bertsolarism in Navarra.
It should be noted that the Government of Navarra, in 2018, declared Bertsolarism as a Good of Cultural Interest, recognizing it as the most outstanding expression of the improvised singing of Navarra, and considering it an intangible heritage to preserve and transmit. The agreement now being signed provides a new impetus to this objective insofar as it establishes the basic guarantees for the collection of the heritage that bertsolarism generates throughout the year and its provision to both future generations and researchers.
