The Bertsolaris Championship of Navarra 2021 was scheduled to be held between January and March. The Navarre Association of Bertsozales announced today that it has decided to postpone the competition “after consulting its bases and analyzing the situation”. They did not wish to set a new date: “It will be decided on the basis of the evolution of the pandemic.”

The organising association has taken the view that in the current crisis and emergency situation the “equal opportunities” required by the championship cannot be guaranteed: “Among other things, situations may arise such as that the bertsolaris should be confined and, consequently, that they lose the opportunity to participate in the championship; difficulties to ensure the same session jury to the session; changes from one session to the other in the capacity and characteristics of the session itself; etc.”

Promotion of culture

The Bertsozale Association has stressed that it will continue to promote bertsolarism and culture because of the delay in the holding of the championship, and has stressed its importance: “Ensuring health and organizing the bertsos are not two opposite things. In this sense, Nafarroako Bertsozale Elkartea will take the opportunity of the competition to promote the Bertsolarism square in Navarra”. The Bertsolaritza Irakaskuntza programme will also be maintained, which will be developed this year in 60 schools in 47 localities in Navarre.
