Since Saturday the fire has been set on fire in Navarre and it is being said that we may be faced with the greatest damage caused by the fires in Navarre. Thousands of hectares of forests and crops have been burnt and are about to be harvested. About 900 people have had to leave their villages. At noon on Monday, the spokesman for the Foral Government, Javier Remirez, stated that two fires (San Martin de Unx and Forgiveness) are "especially active", and that the situation is "very delicate" for this reason. He reports that the other three outbreaks (Los Arcos, Bardea, Ezkaba) are "in the stabilization and conservation phase".
The emergency services of Navarra have reported that of the thirteen empty municipalities, four are the ones that can return to the population because they are out of risk: Arzoz, Artatzu, Girgillao and Biguria.
The fires started on Saturday, first around Legarda, Arroniz and Arguedas. The strong south wind soon dispersed the flames to the surroundings and closed the Highway of the Camino and numerous comardial roads and emptied several localities. During Saturday and Sunday there were also fires in Tafalla, Ujué, Ollaibar, Berriozar and Erro.
As a result, they have had to leave 24 localities, of which 13 have been evicted at some point and houses such as in Argiñariz or Obanos have also been burnt. At the dawn of Monday, ten of them were still empty: As a result of the fire in Ujué, Sansoain, Olleta and Lerga have been evicted in recent hours; they have been torn down in San Martín de Unx, Girgillao, Etxarren Girgillao and Amatria. Sunday night has also been the turn of Artazu, Eslava and Gallipienzo. Everyone is under control except Gallipienzo and Forgiveness.
On Saturday, 2,500 people and many animals had to leave Sendaviva Park in Arguedas. Those responsible for the park say that 98% of them are good. The fires of Arroniz and Arguedas were controlled on Sunday and the fire on Mount Ezkaba in the area of Berriozar.
The early morning of Monday was improving the situation in the Forgiveness fire, which was ignited on Saturday in Legarda, and in San Martín de Unx. The temperature has softened and the north has provided some moisture, which has favoured the situation. Temperatures have been very high during the day and night, and on Saturday night, for example, in Pamplona 26.4º, the highest of all times. In the same city of Pamplona, Sunday morning was awakened with an irritating smell.
Until 22 June the Government of Navarre has banned working with tillage machines that can produce sparks. The Government has put in place all the means of firefighting in the country and cannot reach everything. On the same Monday, four hidro-aircraft arrive in the territory, which lead to the fire in Gallipienzo, where the most serious situation is at present. Ten helicopters are also shutting down. Government spokesman Javier Ramírez announced on Monday morning that the 650 firefighters in Navarre are working and the fire brigades in neighbouring communities have also approached to fight the fires. The peasants have also acted with their tractors in all the fires, opening ditches to prevent the fire from advancing.
Valdizarbe's Vega is one of the most affected areas. The fire started in Legarda was controlled in the same valley for the early hours of Sunday (the fire headed west towards Pardon and Etxauri). In Puente la Reina, Obanos, Muruzabal, Adios, Legarda and other villages there have been significant damage to cultivation fields and forests, but, with a few exceptions, no fire has been introduced in the villages, although it has sometimes been nearby. In Obanos two houses have been burnt, in Puente la Reina two farms and 95% of the municipality of Legarda has been burned, with the exception of the village itself, almost all the rest.
In the south of the country, in the fire of Arguedas and Valtierra, four mills and two factories were burned: Neumaticos Lagun (Michelin) and Planasa dedicated to agricultural innovation, where 200 citizens work.
Firefighters from many places have come to help. Down in the works of extinction of the Firefighters of Álava.
