The day after the municipal and foral elections that have just passed in Hegoalde, the results of my coalition in Navarre are particularly striking. Not by a simple vision of an electoral arithmetic, but by the special position of Nafarroa Garaia in the sovereign process of Euskal Herria. When the results of the municipal and foral elections fell in 2015, the Gipuzkoans were rather sad. I, on the other hand, was very pleased with the change that was achieved in Navarre. On this occasion, feelings are changing: EH Bildu has been quite satisfied with the number of votes he has received, while I am healing a point of sadness about the situation that has been created in Navarre. The Abertzale and leftist quartet which has ruled over the past four years in Navarre has not achieved an absolute majority of the votes. How to analyze this result? Firstly, the build-up of forces on the right with the creation of the Navarra Suma coalition has worked quite well. Secondly, on the left a handful of Podemos voters voted this time at the PSN. In the end, the atmosphere of the general elections in Spain has had its consequences in the elections in Navarre.

Big doubts

In the general elections on February 10, Pedro Sánchez managed to capitalize on the fear generated by the demonstration called by pp, Citizens and Vox in Plaza Colón in Madrid. And that effect has had its prolongation in local elections. Now, the PSN has ceded the presidency of the Parliament of Navarra to Geroa Bai, accepting the participation of EH Bildu in the table. The programmatic agreement for a government is made up of PSN, Geroa Bai and Ezkengen -Izkierda. Will that government continue to work on the dynamics of change that has taken place in Navarre over the last four years? I personally have many doubts, to begin with, from a point of view in favor of the Basque identity and of Euskal Herria… Therefore, it must be remembered that the attitude that the PSN has maintained in the sessions of constitution of the houses of the people has been very harsh. In fact, the assumption by the left-wing forces of the village house has meant that EH Bildu is bolstered in the village houses, has preferred to give power to the right or form alliances with it. This behavior has been carried out by the PSN in all the houses of the town, and in the most representative examples we can locate Irune. But I was particularly struck by the example of Sartagudo. During the civil war, the Francoists killed 86 insurgents. Among the accused was the socialist mayor (Eustachian Mangado Urbiola), who was one of the few who attended the appointment. Because of this massacre, Sartagudo is known as “the widowed people.”

PSN prefers Navarra Sum

In the municipal elections of May 26, EH Bildu has become the first force in Sartagudo. However, and with the past they have in the people, the PSN has chosen to agree with Navarre Suma, before EH Bildu abandoned the process, to those reactionary positions that the PSN still maintains with nationalism must be added: The proximity between Geroa Bai and PNV. After the shock caused by the Catalan process in Spain, the PNV has shown a clear position: it will not cause any rupture in Spain, and if something “is offered”, it will be stability. In the case of Navarre, therefore, I fear that a government that can be formed between the PSN, Geroa Bai and Left-Ezkerra may generate more stagnation than a succession of changes in the process of Basque sovereignty and identity. In any case, it is already known that to set this government in motion it will be necessary to abstain from EH Bildu… This year, after San Fermín, the “festival” will continue in Navarre.
