For the first time they have managed to make this year in Baztan Mutil-dantza not “exclusive”. The Plazara Dantzara group announced at a press conference that “they have passed an important milestone” at this year’s festivities. Members of the group, however, affirm that “the excluders have not disappeared” and that they still have a “long way” to change.
“Exclusion has not ended as a result of self-reflection, but because through organization and struggle their arrogant and misogynistic ideas have lost legitimacy,” the group said. He has also denounced “attacks, contempt and injustices” that occurred for years with the Mutil-dantzak: “There have been several attacks with the gaze and silence accomplices of many citizens.”
On the other hand, the group has thanked the “effectiveness” of the feminist network of Euskal Herria in the struggle for “egalitarian dances”.
Responsibility of all
The team stresses the need for responsibility: “Since the Mutil-Dantza is the cultural heritage of all Baztans, it must be given the place it deserves in the squares and dance schools of our peoples. This work should not only be the responsibility of women and the feminist movement, it is the responsibility of all.”
The press conference ended by calling all the baztans: “The healing path will therefore come with the recovery of the prestige and value of Mutil-dantza. We therefore encourage all baztans to begin together this recovery process that Baztan needs. Gora Mutil-dantzak, feminist borroka gora!”
