The museums of Bizkaia have not waited for visitors and have come out to the streets to make known the most significant pieces of their collections. The Paseo de Uribitarte de Bilbao has been the scene of large photo panels that show a piece of each museum and report some of its curiosities. Known museums have joined the Uribitarte exhibition, but the real discovery is the curiosities hidden in small museums around the world.
In short, museums are a good excuse to visit the towns of Bizkaia. In all the counties is the chosen place, usually these are museums of history and customs of the area, both small and orderly.
For example, at the Museum of Txakoli in Bakio, the Bodega del Txakoli, we gather the close relationship that Bakio has had with this drink since the 14th century. Thanks to the proximity of the sea and the suitable grounds, there are excellent vineyards for the elaboration of the txakoli in the village environment. The Txakolingunea is located in a modern and elegant building, ready to transmit to visitors, through audiovisual and guided tours, all the secrets (or most) of the production of the txakoli.
The favorite piece of the museum is the old lagar of the Luzarraga farmhouse. In Uribitarte's exhibition, the photograph of the lagar and the explanations about its functioning are representatives of Txakolingunea. In this hamlet of Bakio the lizard was used to make txakoli, a stone artiluge that is able to extract a fluid that will crush the grapes and then turn into wine through a sink called Xurrutua. In other dwellings, the lagar is used to make cider.
The lagar is an immense piece, but it is not the largest of the museums in Bizkaia. In one of the panels installed in Bilbao we are told that in Santurtzi you can see the fishing boat Agurtza and enter. This Lekeitio boat was long engaged in inshore fishing and was subsequently transferred to Santurtzi, the Interpretation Centre of the Sea.
Dolarea and Agurtza are just two of the pieces that can be seen in the museums of Bizkaia. On the panels of the Paseo Uribitarte you can see more photos until July 8. Anyone who cannot approach Bilbao can also do so via the website. The most beautiful experience, however, is undoubtedly to go to museums and see the pieces firsthand, taking into account health protection measures.
