Catalonia and Hego Euskal Herria would lie to Felipe VI if a referendum is held in the Spanish state
- The results of the survey on monarchy driven by sixteen independent state media have already been published. In a hypothetical referendum, 40.9% of State citizens would vote in favour of the republic and 34.9% in favour of the monarchy. Only in Catalonia and the Southern Basque Country is there a clear opposite result to the monarchy, which exceeds 60%.
The result of the survey was made public on 12 October by sixteen independent media from the Spanish State. The results show that Hego Euskal Herria and Catalonia are the most anti-monarchic territories – data from the Catalan countries would be different, among other things because the monarchy would win in the Valencian Community.
According to the report, not all the autonomous communities have differentiated data, but according to Elsalto, 66% of the Catalans and 60.8% of the inhabitants of Hegoalde would vote in favour of the republic. At the state level, I would also win the republican option, but barely, and the final result would be decided by the doubtful: 40.9% would vote in favor of the republic; 34.9% in favor of the monarchy; the undecided are 12.9% today. Without Catalan and Basque, the monarchy would win.
The triumphant monarchy only among those over 65
The results also provide data of interest. For example, in the State, only the favorable position to the monarchy prevails among citizens over 65 years of age. The vote against the monarchy, according to the survey, would be the main one, but the perception of the citizens is the opposite: that the supporters of the monarchy would win. However, a majority considers that a referendum is necessary. In addition to the referendum, the survey also asked citizens what type of republic they prefer, the individual valuation of each person in the royal house – Queen Emeritus Sofia has the highest recognition with a score of 5.9 – or that of the kingdoms of Philip VI.aren and Juan Carlos I.aren.
The monarchy survey has been promoted by the Independent Media Platform, which brings together sixteen independent media from the Spanish State, after verifying that the Sociological Research Center (CIS) of Spain has been without asking about the monarchy for five years. Respondents started a public campaign to raise funds for the survey, and in a single day they got the required amount. The survey was conducted by the opinion institute 40dB, led by former CIS president Belén Barreiro.
