Mass protests against racism in the United States and Euskal Herria
- On Sunday, concentrations were held in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Bilbao and Donostia-San Sebastián, on Saturday in Pamplona/Iruña, and on Thursday in Baiona. In Pamplona, in addition to George Floyd, the death of Elhadji Ndiaye, who died in 2008, has also been reported. The calls have stressed the need to combat racism in the Basque Country.
The mobilization of Pamplona was multitudinous and emotional for many. The protesters remembered Elhadji Nadiaye, a local neighbour, who has recently been arrested. Ndiaye, like Floyd, died in the context of violent police detention. The San Sebastian call complied with the Boulevard. Impoverished migrants denounced the discrimination they suffer in our territory: in the search for housing, in employment, in legalization... Both in Pamplona and in Donostia-San Sebastián, the protesters swelled on their knees and wearing banners.
In Vitoria-Gasteiz, hundreds of people called by groups of racialized people congregated in the Plaza de la Virgen María. “Without justice there will be no peace,” was one of the most shouted slogans. In Bilbao, the concentration was carried out in front of the Palacio de Justicia of the capital Biscay. The organizers wanted to denounce the institutional racism that has been taking place in the last few hours in the Basque Country. In Baiona, the rally was held on Thursday in front of the police station.
