Hundreds of people demonstrated on Saturday in the Baztan Valley to demand the cessation of the Aroztegi macro-urban project. Platforms Aroztak Defend the rural environment! Under the motto "parad carpentry", organized the mobilization, which began in Elizondo and ended in Lekaroz.

On 8 April the construction of 228 luxury homes, a hotel of 126 rooms, a spa and a golf course in the village of Lekaroz began, commissioned by the company Palacio de Aroztegia SM. The camp that took place on the grounds on which the neighbors were to perform the works lasted 11 days and the works were paralyzed.

Members of the platform have pointed out that “the people of Baztan do not accept the project” and have asked the Government of Navarra to “respect the word of the people”. In addition, they have pointed out that in the Baztan Valley there are 860 empty houses and 520 secondary dwellings, all of them empty. "The Government of Navarra and the political parties in the area have a responsibility to paralyse the project and take a step back," they said. In any case, they have stressed that they will continue to "fight" and that they will do "whatever actions are necessary" to paralyse the project.

The platform is not the only one that denounces the urban project. Baztan City Hall has also filed a complaint against the company and the LAB syndicate has also filed a complaint with the Administrative Court of Public Contracts of Navarra. In addition, the mayor of Lekaroz denounced the "destruction" suffered by the excavators on 13 May by cutting oaks centenarians, among other things.
