In addition to showing solidarity with the imputed Catalan independentists, thousands of people congregated also claimed the right to decide from the peoples. Many citizens took advantage of these umbrellas and balloons distributed by the organizers. Before the march began, Ángel Oiarbide, of Cinct Esku Dago, told the media that the trial was not just against the Catalan defendants and independentists, that the trial was basically against the right to decide, “voting cannot be a crime, in a strong democracy, the right to decide and self-determination cannot be crimes.”

At the end of the demonstration, Montse Puigdemont, the sister of the Catalan president, Carles Puigdemont, intervened to thank those present for having filled the streets in defense of civil rights. He said that we are facing a trial that should not have begun and that they will use the situation to make their voice as strong as possible against the trial.”

The event ended with the intervention of Ángel Oiarbide, who stressed that the right to decide is the basis for a fairer world “both in Scotland and in Quebec, Northern Ireland or Catalonia”. He called for cooperation between the peoples and between the Basques because this will overcome the obstacles that will oppose the right to decide.

Several representatives of Basque nationalist parties and unions, such as EH Bildu, PNV, ELA or LAB, attended the demonstration, among others.
