The City Council prevents migrants from using the Atxondo hostel, denounces the reception network
- Atxondo Harrera Herria has recalled that migrants have been unable to enter the hostel for weeks and that the reason given to them by the city council is that the hostel has to pass the inspection, that they are preparing a report and that that is why it cannot be used. The Host People have many questions and concerns.
Until the inspection report arrives, the Reception Council has asked the mayor to use the hostel in Axpe, “under our responsibility, because we believe the situation is more dignified than being on the street. This house is habitable because a few days ago the Sahrawi children and the children of the Reception have been present.”
They have seen the mayor's argument with suspicion: “Where has it been seen that in cases where an inspection report had to be requested, everyone has to leave their home? We have also requested information from the Mayor, we have made a correct request, we want to know what the situation of that report is, if it is requested and how long they plan to give an answer, because in the meantime we have to start thinking about where to enter the Reception boys.”
Mobilisation on Friday
At the moment there are seven migrants who want to use the hostel: Sadic, Omar, Dame, Modo, Bouba, Souffiane and Yassin. “What’s going to happen to the Reception guys?” Moreover, they say that they are jeopardized by the Reception project, and they denounce all this and call this Friday a mobilization in solidarity with the project and the users of the hostel, at 18:30 under the town hall.
Atxondo Harrera Herria has recalled that the commitment contained in the Basque Social Pact for Migration is “to provide the necessary resources for migrants in vulnerable situations” and that the pact is also signed by the City Council of Atxondo.
The Host People were born in 2018, with the objective of offering a dignified welcome to migrants who arrive in Euskal Herria, and have “thousands of reasons” to keep fighting, “as many as people who spend the night every day in the street.”
