The European Court of Human Rights prevents the UK from deporting migrants to Rwanda
- The plane going from London to Rwanda has been left empty thanks to the European Court of Human Rights and cancelled the flight.
On 14 June, a plane full of migrants was going to leave London asking for refuge in the United Kingdom. After the intervention of the European Court of Human Rights, however, the flight did not leave because there was no one to embark on the plane.
A number of migrant rights groups, such as Care4Calais, launched a series of legal remedies to stop the aircraft, including an appeal that was rejected by the London Court of Appeal. Dozens of asylum-seekers saw their airline tickets cancelled, according to Care4Calais, so on 14 June they had to deport only seven people.
However, on the same night when the aircraft was expected to depart, the European Court of Human Rights issued several judgments on the cases of the last protection applicants and ordered the British Government not to expel them.
Although the United Kingdom is not integrated into the European Union, it remains part of the European Courts of Human Rights. However, according to The Times, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has pointed out that it is possible to leave the Court of Human Rights, and he is thinking of the UK government expelling migrants.
