Mendigorría's fathers and mothers have not allowed their sons and daughters to pre-register in model D
- On Monday morning they tried to carry out the procedure, but they replied that in their people they cannot register in the Basque model.
As soon as the deadline is opened, at 9:45 a.m. today, six boys and girls from Mendigorría have tried to enroll in model D at the local school. However, their requests have been rejected on the grounds that this possibility is not foreseen.
Josu Goñi is one of those parents. As explained to Euskalerria Irratia, “until last week, on the website of the Department of Education, in the public school of Mendigorría the possibility of studying in model D appeared and has been eliminated”.
Goñi has given a significant figure: “With a view to the next course, in Mendigorría we are more the families who want a model in Basque than those who want a model in Spanish”. However, the Department of Education wants to reorient those interested in the Basque teaching model towards Puente la Reina.
“Unlike previous years, this year we cannot enroll in model D, they want to take us to the school of another town that is not our first choice, to blur the real demand,” Goñi said. “In this pre-registration period we are trapped the six families of Mendigorría we want model D. But since November we have been in contact with the Department. They did not want to envisage opening a new Model D line,” he added. And another story has been the one he wrote: “Mendigorría’s school is a small rural school. If more than half or half of the students send us out, the future of the school will be in serious danger, it will have many possibilities to disappear.”
