The Altsasu health centre serves over 9,000 people. For this they have an average of two or three family doctors and a pediatrician: “Lately we have been without a pediatrician.” It is unacceptable according to the members of the platform, as workers cannot cope with demand. Thus, six family doctors and one and a half pediatrician have asked: “That’s what we owe to the population.” They stress that this situation affects everyone: “It creates concern for workers and anger for citizens”.
Due to the shortage of staff, the health centre is often called and they are told there is no staff, which causes long waiting lists. In addition, many have to travel 50 kilometers to see us: “When something important happens to us, we don’t know where to go and go to the hospital emergency room.”
Given the lack of staff, the response of the Government of Navarra was “scarce”: “We have been told they do what they can and do not find workers”. They add that Sakana’s “bad” health care has a long way to go, because quality has gradually deteriorated: “We know that the situation did not begin to get worse in this or the previous legislature, but we believe that UPN has had seven years to intervene and improve the situation.”
In addition to the “scarce” health resources of Altsasu/Alsasua, Olazaguti/Olazaguti and Ziordia, there has been a decrease in the quality of health care in the rest of the localities of Sakana: “Unau, Dorrau, Lizarraga, Bakaiku, Urdiain, Arbizu and Lakunemica receive no attention.
