The Sanfermines of Pamplona of 2022 would end on Thursday, July 14. For this reason, the mayor of Pamplona, Enrique Maya, proposed earlier this week to extend for three days the festivities of the city so that the sanfermines also have their second weekend.
However, with the rain of replies he has had, he has withdrawn the warning again at the end of the week. It says that the proposal is informal, that it will take it to the Bureau in Sanfermin in November, but that it sees that it has not been taken properly and that it therefore has no problem in going back.
The Mayor of Navarra Suma was surprised by a rain of criticism to which he was subjected. The President of the Federation of Peñas, Iosu Santxez, has reproached him for the lack of seriousness, the importance of the proposal and that something like this cannot be proposed in any way, that he should first bring the matter to the Bureau of Sanfermin. It appreciates that the proposal is vain and asks it not to play with the feelings of the citizens.
In the City Hall of Pamplona, EH Bildu, PSN and Geroa Bai have also criticized the mayor's idea and have denounced that he uses this type of proposal to cover his mismanagement and his difficulties to rule in a minority.
The proposal of the right-wing mayor has been well received by the Association of Tourism and Hospitality of Navarra, and by the Association of Merchants of the Casco Viejo.
