Young Barkoxe Will Offer Masks This Summer
- The winter feasts, carnivals are the masks, but the pandemic has not given an option to celebrate them in the last winter, so the young men and women of Barkoxe will be delivered this summer, as of July 31.
In October 2020, it was announced that, if the requirements were met, the citizens of Barkoxe and Atharratze-Aloz would organise the 2021 masks. This year the intention was to prepare two masks, one of each people. Because of COVID-19 they have not been able to take place on the usual dates of the carnivals, but Barkoxe neighbours have seen the possibility of celebrating masked in summer and adapted to health measures. To this end, they have formed a group of some thirty people.
The first session will take place on 31 July at the same Barkoxe, and a number of concerts are scheduled to take place in August. The barkoxtarra Ximun Pinque has been in charge of publicizing the masks this summer in Zuberoa. He explains that, as in winter, 12-15 masking sessions, which will be less, will not be organized and have not yet set the timetable.
This is not the first time Barkoxe has masked in summer. In 1979 there were two masks: Altzürükük in winter and Barkoxe in summer. In fact, to form the masonry team, they needed the young men playing rugby. On the usual dates the championship was being played, so they could not play the masks, so the masks of Barkoxe that year were delayed to August.
