The extreme heat has not caused many citizens to stay at home and dozens of people have gathered on Saturday in Zubieta Square. The Anti-Incineration Movement is very angry with the authorities in Gipuzkoa and they denounce that there is no one to explain when problems arise in this infrastructure.
“Gipuzkoa is saturated with officials, authorities and professionals who can and are obliged to control the incinerator. We have police of all colors, public environmental protection agencies, public and private companies that fill their mouths with “governance” and “transparency”, authorities and politicians who are proud to tell the truth to the citizens… But when it comes to controlling a Incinerator full of risks nobody is looking, nobody is looking to alert when something happens, nobody is controlling the suspects… Makel Olano, the Deputy General? What do you point to?” they ask.
They have reproached the PNV politician who had no rest until the start of the “incinerator monster”, despite the fact that the public is refusing again and again, or that many municipalities have shown that we are cheaper, healthier and more efficient in waste management, or even if popular movements have mobilised for years against the project. “You have achieved what you wanted: indebted the citizens, enriched the multinationals and some of their irreverent companies, deceived the citizens with an advertising campaign… and set in motion an expensive monster that wastes waste and burns them. But now, Mr Markel Olano, the professional leaders of the PNV and the PSE who are sending in Gipuzkoa, where are you now to control the Zubieta Incinerator on a daily basis? Do you not owe clear and clear information to the citizens of the whole of Gipuzkoa and, above all, to the citizens here who have the risks of the Incinerator near home? Markel Olano, what is going on in the Zubieta incinerator?” they ended up saying.
SOS announced on Friday that civil society is investigating the dumping in Arkaitzerreka and that they are already in the hands of the tax ministry.
The Basque Government and the Environmental Department of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa denounce the lack of studies on the origin of pollution. On the contrary, it has praised the fact that civil society has tackled the issue and the investigation has begun – the Anti-Incineration Movement or the municipal police in Usurbil has taken samples of contaminated water since the first day and is being analysed in a laboratory. They call on the Prosecutor ' s Office to act swiftly and accurately to clarify the facts. “Society has the right to know what’s going on,” they say.
SOS has also criticised the note sent by the Gipuzkoa Waste Consortium (GHK) in two sentences. Rather than investigating by the GHK, this group considers that the activity of GHK should be investigated, since GHK is the owner of the incinerator and the biological mechanical treatment plants.
