The Platform for Prisoners of Eskoriatza and the Old Street of Donostia-San Sebastián have made known the situation of the Basque political prey Marixol Iparragirre Guenetxea, through a note. Iparragirre was sentenced by the French State to 20 years in prison and served on 27 August, according to the Ministry of the Interior. “He should be on the street, among his own,” the note says. On the contrary, he remains in prison: “They have him in Reau prison because France accepted several Euroorders and requests for extradition against him to put him in the hands of the Spanish judges.”
According to the support associations for prisoners, requests for extradition focused on "statements tortured in police and Civil Guard barracks and tests carried out by police services". The media reports that the accusations received in these petitions are now spreading, “creating a climate that will make incarceration indispensable. And conversely, their freedom, scandalous or unlikely.”
Behind this desire for incarceration in Spain, popular initiatives detect a “clear reason”: “Sabotaging a peace initiative that is being built at all costs in Euskal Herria”. On the contrary, they recall that Iparragirre has for years been one of the main “motors and assets” of this initiative. Among other things, they have highlighted the meetings they held in 2017 and as representatives of the EPPK with different agents and people from France and International, or the fact of giving voice to the document that announced the disappearance of ETA. According to the note, the liberation of Iparragirre would strengthen the possibilities of taking "steps beyond the resolution of the conflict".
Concentration on Wednesday
Faced with the risk of being extradited and punished again in Spain, they have called a rally on Wednesday at 19:30 in Eskoriatza Square under the motto ‘No to extradition, to Marixol’.
“I was 20 years old when Marixol Iparragirre had to torture and flee. It's been 38 years since then. The organization in which he fought no longer exists. Her mother, María Luisa Guenetxea, who just turned 86, on the last time they spoke, gave her daughter a clear order: “Marixol, home! The hoe that I can no longer use awaits you to cultivate the garden of the house!”
Aspiazu, Temporary Returnee
On Monday he was extradited to Spain by France from the Basque political prisoner GARIKOITZ Aspiazu Rubina. Aspiazu will be tried in the National Court for the murder of Judge José María Lidón, charged with a crime of murder.
