Demonstrations in Brussels against the NATO summit
- The summit will conclude on Thursday and will be supported by 3,500 police and 900 military personnel. It has been said to avoid the city center to facilitate the movements of senior officials.
The Antimilitarist Alternative -MOC group has participated in the actions that have been carried out in Brussels. Members of the European Antimilitarist Network and the Resisters of International Wars want to denounce the “criminal nature” of NATO as it destroys the life of the planet.
This makes us see the “destructive role” of the organization through the business of war, the militarization of borders and the contribution to the war against life that the ejércitos propose in themselves. They fight for the interests of the rich and increase the “state of exploitation and impoverishment” of disadvantaged people.
Seven people have been arrested and there are many military personnel in the city for security reasons.
Other activists have also protested. The Confederal Group of the European United Left/Nordic Green Left of the European Parliament called for a demonstration on 7 July under the slogan Make Peace Great Again. “They oppose the logic that prioritizes militarization in the face of poverty, climate and refugee problems,” they said.
The non-NATO group, for its part, protested on Wednesday in the Ciquentenaire Park, in front of the NATO headquarters, to demand that the rulers talk about peace.
