Demonstration in Ribaforada against the attitude of the mayor and the "expulsions" of prisoners
- Modou Khadim Sow, a neighbour of Ribaforada, was expelled last week to Senegal thanks to the help of the town hall and the mayor of the town. The demonstration was convened on Saturday at 7 p.m. by the Senegalese association of the Ribera.
Modou Khadim Sow received a letter to appear at the City Hall. Along with the mayor, the National Police was waiting for him on the spot. Khadim was in an irregular administrative situation. He was arrested by the police and expelled to Senegal within 48 hours.
Racist movements and migrant associations have strongly criticised what has happened. They denounce that spleen expulsions have increased considerably in recent years, providing an illustrative fact: more expulsions occur in this way than from the Closed Centers for Foreigners (CIE). They highlighted the lack of guarantees for expulsions, which take place in "less than 72 hours and without legal intervention".
“Appointment traps”, increasingly frequent
The associations have pointed out that "on quite a few occasions" it has happened that the Aliens Brigade calls the police on citizens who are in an irregular administrative situation for some formality. Upon arrival, the expulsion order is opened or executed.
The associations have also framed within the logic of the “Dating traps” what the City Council of Ribaforada has done with Khadi. They have called into question the legality of the procedure: “We think it can be a prevarication. The City Hall has gone beyond its competences and functions.” They have accused the mayor of practising institutional racism, emphasizing that it has sent a message of fear and helplessness to a part of the public.
The demonstration was convened by the Senegalese Association of the Bank on 18 May. He will leave at 19:00 hours from the former sports club of Ribaforada.
