The young people of Judimendi speak in favour of the right to housing
- On the youth day of the neighborhood festivities, the young people of Judimensiondi manifest their right to emancipate themselves and live in the neighborhood.
At the beginning of the course, the youth assembly of the neighborhood launched the dynamic “Project our lives, emancipate ourselves in Judimensiondi!”. Since then, questionnaires and communicative work have been carried out, and statistical data have been obtained and given. They have now continued the campaign with mobilisation.
‘The average rental price, the average selling price of housing … differ from the precarious situation of young people and from our situation of total uncertainty. In addition, we have hundreds of empty houses in the neighborhood, which, instead of making them available to the youngest, are out of use. It has neither feet nor heads.’ This was pointed out by the young assembly.
They consider that the situation has direct responsibilities because the capitalist system compares rights through ‘banking, real estate and institutional gears’. They raise the need to "face" these leaders.
Youth and vital project
The youth assembly asserts the right to emancipate itself in the neighborhood because of its importance in the development of the lives of young people: they argue that it is not possible to carry out their own life project in the homes of parents or relatives, as they are obliged to "have a very low degree of autonomy and constant dependence" in this situation, along with the stabilized "figure of authority of the parents".
Moreover, they consider that living in the parents' house also hampers "the construction of social relations, the development of personality and politicization", all of which are very important elements in youth.
In this sense, the members of the youth assembly of the Judimendi neighborhood express their desire to continue fighting for the right to housing: ‘because housing is a right, because we want to develop our life projects in an integral and dignified way, because we want and want to live in Judimensiondi’.
