Thousands of people approached the demonstration convened by the Bizkaia Pensioners Movement on 22 August in Bilbao. The meeting took place in a festive atmosphere, between the txistularis and the batukada, coinciding with the Aste Nagusia of Bilbao. The demonstration departed from Eliptika Square to the Arenal Cacique. In addition to Euskal Herria, participants from Asturias, Cantabria and Galicia were able to hear the cries “No cuts from Osakidetza” and “banking, robbers, billions back,” according to EITB.
The spokesman for the Pensioners' Movement, Jon Fano, spoke to the media. She explained that access to a minimum pension of EUR 1,080 would have a greater impact on women, who receive less than that amount. It has also denounced the “dissolution and privatisation” of Osakidetza and pointed out two things: That pensioners in Bizkaia have been claiming a dignified pension for four years and seven months and that on 15 October they will join other groups in Madrid to update retirement pensions in one year.
