On 24 October they will hold a demonstration in Donostia-San Sebastian and will end the march on the Concha beach, where they will make a mosaic with the aim of spreading a message “to the whole world”: “Gentlemen and ladies of the governments of Madrid and Paris: start taking real steps to get this situation back,” they explained.
They have appealed to all Basque citizens to participate in the mobilisation, “without party affiliation”: “It is an appeal to all people who are in favour of human rights, of the elimination of the emergency penitentiary policy, and they want to achieve a better future than we have had,” they said.
During their appearance on the Concha Walk, they recalled the milestones that marked the peace process: The final cessation of ETA’s activity in October 2011, the disarmament in April 2017 and its dissolution in May 2018. They also stressed the importance of June 2018: "For the first time, the President of the Spanish Government publicly committed himself to a profound reform of prison policy. A commitment to replace anti-terrorist prison policy with a human-rights prison policy for Basque prisoners.”
Thus, they criticized that these promises “were nothing but promises” and addressed the message to the Government of Spain: “Show that you are a truly progressive government and use that majority to change this situation. If you do, in addition to the support of the trade union and political majority, you will have the support of the entire Basque society.”
Sare called for “a society based on peace and coexistence” and added that the current situation cannot be prolonged: “Because in Igorre [González Sola] death has to be the last and the suffering of yours has to disappear. Because we need a society based on peace and coexistence,” they said.
In addition to the mobilisations called for on 24 October, a programme for the whole day has been organised for next Saturday: Sare has called 650 mountains of Euskal Herria on October 3.
