The Town Hall of Llodio has organised a campaign against romantic love for Valentine’s Day, claiming that it reinforces inequalities and disadvantages within a loving relationship. Through a note, the City Hall has shown its rejection of the celebration and has pointed out that it promotes "a social model that forces the couple to be a couple".
Councilwoman and equality, Loli Muriel, wanted to denounce the “heterosexual love model” that Valentine sells in society. In addition, he has criticized that this type of love "drives a definitive, monogamous and indestructible relationship", while at the same time he has assured that "builds jealous attitudes that allow him to maintain this relationship". The councillor also stressed that these ideas are based on the “thought that the woman is a member of man.”
As a result, the City has programmed two activities against the celebration of the International Day of the Basque Country. On the one hand, the show Degenérate a lot on February 14 at 19:00 in the Laudioalde room, “a theater of humor that reflects on how we build ourselves”. Moreover, on 15 February the American film Before dusk, also in Laudioalde, will be screened.
This action is part of Laudio’s third Plan for the Equality of Women and Men, which aims to “prevent violent and sexist attitudes, promote good treatment and deepen issues such as the myths of romantic love.”
