Letter to the Government of 15 groups in defense of the Earth, in response to the allegations of the Energy Plan
- On 11 December, the Department of Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment of the Basque Government had the opportunity to consult the "Report of response to the allegations and reports presented in the public information process of the Basque Country Regional Plan for Renewable Energies" (PTS for Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment), which was briefly published on the official website of the Basque Government.
In our view, the greed of the Department of Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment, in failing to consider the thousands of allegations made by many individuals, institutions and administrations, highlights the cruelty and poor strategy of the Department. The government is in a very hurry on the road to the implementation of an absolutely dire renewable energy development model (industrial renewable energy model), in which the US PTS is to be closed within a few months of the legislature. Moreover, if we take into account the scarce and weak arguments given, the manipulation of data and the broad social rejection generated.
Moreover, the document generally has a confusing and interested interpretation of the legal system, which is subject to the interests of PTS EBB. An amendment to the rules is also being proposed, which are currently an obstacle to the implementation of the US PTS, and which seek to give new meaning to already established legal figures. This is the case of the Green Corridor Network, whose connectivity functions, contrary to that established by this network, are now limited to terrestrial species, excluding all flying species. They also exclude environmental regulations contrary to government interests, such as Basque natural heritage law, landscape protection, agroforestry sectoral plans, etc.
On the contrary, the tone of the report in the replies to the allegations submitted by the companies promoting the projects already raised is striking, as in these cases the possibility of reducing the environmental impact in the document following the provisional approval has been reconsidered, among other requests. In short, a fully flexible belt for companies, beneficial to them and becoming rigid and harmful to citizens and the environment.
Reading this document, published in the very short term, due to the legal problems that the omission of mandatory data protection may entail, is very illustrative to understand the US PTS that does not seek transparency and social consensus. Because all this reinforces our motivation to defend the land from all means at our disposal, from social action to judicial action.
