Loizu's human skeleton, the mammoth bones of Isturitz and the grafts of Iruña Veleia
In February the human skeleton of 12,000 years found in a cave of Loizu (Merindad de Sangüesa) was presented; this month the mammoth bones of 30,000 years found in the cave of Isturitze, in Donamarti (Baja Navarra).
This newspaper has provided excellent information on two findings, accompanied by beautiful photographs. To study them, he says that a great movement has been created between scientists and universities. In mid-February, on the examination of the human skeleton in Loizu, he said: “There will be a multidisciplinary team of 26 people analyzing the clues. Among others, researchers from Cantabria, Burgos, York, Uppsala, Cambridge and CSIC will work on research.”
The finding of Isturitz in Donamartiri is presented on the cover of the April 16 issue as follows: “Mammoth hunting in Isturitz. 30,000 years ago, tools and animal remains were found in the cave of Donamarti, in an international excavation led by a team from the UPV/EHU.” And then, in the report: “…we will send at least two samples from each stratigraphic level to different universities for laboratories to perform 14 carbon tests.”
These cases are compared with those of Iruña Veleia and it is observed that the procedures are totally different. In the case of Iruña Veleia, despite insisting on his request, no international specialists were admitted; the samples of graffiti were not sent to laboratories or universities; the leaders started the judicial process instead of the path of science; of the 400 graphites only 10% were analyzed… Eliseo Gil was convicted by a judge, by a researcher (J.V. Navarro) based on research carried out in a laboratory (IPCE). One, one, one. There are researchers, universities or international laboratories!
At this time, he holds under key grafts that can be so important to the history of the Basque Country (!?) The Diputación de Álava, transformed into taboo and hampered by new research pathways: 90% of the graphites are unanalyzed, the excavation is not controlled, samples are not sent to universities and laboratories, there are hundreds of pieces that can provide a lot of information that have not been cleaned since 2008… The road of Loizu e Isturitz is correct.
