The Youth Assembly of Estella occupies a building
- After years of being a reference of the youth movement Estella’s Pinupe Youth Center, the Estella Youth Assembly has decided to carry out a new occupation and they have entered a public building located in the center of Estella with the intention of starting a self-management project.
"The Pinupe youth center does not meet the needs we have today," they explain, although they admit that throughout its history "it has allowed many things and in it there have been very enriching projects", "but as time passes, for those of us who seek to acquire consciousness and change this world, the conditions also change, and consequently, the tools to face the problems".
With this new occupation they want to denounce private property as the basis of capitalism. "We need to move from private to collective ownership and regain direct control of the different areas. That’s what self-management is all about,” he said.
"As if this were not enough, those of us who are crushed by this system do not form a homogeneous group. There are different power relations between us and we suffer oppression in a different way (different subjectivities within the working class: young people, unemployed, women, precarious workers, pensioners, foreigners, Basque speakers, gender dissidents, students... without forgetting the animals or the amalur that cannot fight for themselves) and solidarity between us is necessary. Therefore, it is necessary that the youth center is a collective space and that those of us who use it have total control over it, because this way of functioning puts the material condition for a model of life without power relations," the statement said.
The Youth Assembly assures that this occupied public institution has been "abandoned" in recent years, and that they plan to carry out "many projects" in this space.
