Leioa's five will not be imprisoned after the fall of the prosecution's request for punishment
- Until now, he claimed the penalty of seventeen years ' imprisonment against two of his members, two two years ' imprisonment and one and a half years ' imprisonment against the latter. In today ' s trial, however, he has called for a penalty of one year against four and a half year for the fifth.
Five of Leioa will not have to go to jail. On Wednesday the trial against the defendants took place and the prosecution has reduced the requests for sanctions. It calls for a one-year penalty against four members for public disorder and half a year for the fifth for attack. They are awaiting the judgment.
The trial has taken place at the Bilbao Palace of Justice and dozens of people have approached claiming the freedom of the five of Leioa. Six of them have been identified and retained by the Ertzaintza, apparently by the recording of images.
However, they denounce the "attack on political rights": "We have spent more than seven years with this judicial process, over a year ago there were huge requests for sanctions and we have spent a lot of time on prison risk."
The platform underlines that they have been condemned for participating in a mobilization denouncing repression. "The capitalist State repressively punishes political militancy and the right to protest, and supposedly progressive governments follow the same repressive recipe."
Mikel Eizagirre interviewed five of Leioa Ander Mazkiaran and Olast Arrizibita in ARGIA. It stressed that what was being denounced was not a "barbarity" in criminal applications, but was intended to delegitimize the judicial process itself. "Even if the penalties were lower, we see a political nature. We believe that the legitimacy of political militancy must be defended, without any condition". They explained that in many cases they greatly exaggerated the requests for sanctions, then blackmail them and accept the penalties that the defendants seem "simpler".
