Four men arrested for male violence this weekend
- On November 25, feminist justice and feminist self-defense were proclaimed in eleven towns and cities of the Basque Country, but the aggressions have not been interrupted during the weekend: Four men aged 18, 34, 35 and 36 have been arrested in Tudela, Tafalla, Errenteria and Vitoria, respectively, in connection with male violence.
Four men have recently been detained in the Basque Country on the international day against violence against women A25, according to the media, three of them for sexual assault and another for playing the partner.
A 36-year-old man was imprisoned in Vitoria on Sunday, charged with sexual assault and injury to a woman. According to the Basque Government's Department of Security, on Sunday morning the man followed the woman to the portal where he attacked him. The couple of the woman, also the man, heard screams and came to help him, who was arrested. The Ertzaintza arrested the aggressor and the judge of the Court of Vitoria ordered the imprisonment.
Another 35-year-old man was arrested by the Ertzaintza in Errenteria, accusing a woman of sexual assault. According to the Security Department, he was attacked in the street on Sunday morning and a neighbor warned. The man tried to escape, but the Ertzaines managed to stop him.
An 18-year-old man was arrested in Tudela on Friday night, accusing a woman of sexual abuse in a bar. He has been released temporarily, but on Monday he will pass before the judge, according to the newspaper Berria.
In addition, a fourth man was arrested in Tafalla, 34, on charges of gender-based violence. According to the Foral Police, the man beat his partner on a bus that ran through the AP-15 and some travelers got up to protect the woman and stop the man.
Call to men
In the A25 thousands of people denounced the “eleven ways” of male violence and feminist movements in the Basque Country claimed self-defense and feminist justice in the streets of towns and cities. They reaffirm their attitude to the Machian attacks: “No aggression, no answers.”
They also call for men to be held responsible in this year’s demonstrations: “We demand that they take responsibility. Stop being an aggressor and accomplice. Superficial discourses do not work if nothing changes in practice.”
