On Saturday the mobilization of Lurzaindia to the Herri Elkargoa to promote the agricultural lands of Kanbo
- The Lurzaindia association, which works for the survival of the farmhouses in Iparralde and for the acquisition of land for new farmers, will be mobilised in Baiona next Saturday, 2 February, at 08:00 in the morning, in front of the building in which the Herri Elkargoa will meet. They will denounce that the peoples of the coast have already artificialised many lands and will demand in Kanbo’s planning that 10 more hectares do not go from agriculture to speculation.
In a statement issued by Lurzaindia to his collaborators, Errobi stated that "the crops of the community have decreased by 21% between 2000 and 2010, and the territory has lost 34%. It is a sad reality. On Saturday, February 2, the elects of the Basque community will vote for or against Kanbo’s PLU [Municipal Urban Plan] project. If they vote in favour, the 10 hectares of crops currently used by farmers, artificialized and perishable will be lost."
Lurzaindia has pointed out that agriculture generates employment, as production, processing and marketing come together through the agricultural use of fields and fields. "It is attractive to the territory and maintains the landscapes. The diversity in the field of quality cultivation responds to the challenge of healthy, local food and also to the climate challenges".
Lurzaindia, with the help of the citizens, buys land – and the owners who so wish, inheriting the land they have voluntarily given to the association – and in them enters the young farmers who want to dedicate themselves to agriculture and cannot access them. Tourism and speculation about the construction of diffuse houses in recent years have greatly increased the price of land and Lurzaindia tries to counter it with its own capacities.
Prior to the meeting that the Commonwealth is going to hold at the Baiona School, it has appealed to citizens concerned about the issue: "To keep Mother Earth, come to school in great quantity at 8 am in Baiona."
