The LAB trade union has called on Azkuna ZENTROA in Bilbao to shoulder its responsibilities and take steps to prevent the unprotection of workers at this Tuesday’s feminist picket. The reason for the mobilization has been the aggression suffered by a worker in a cultural and leisure centre in the locality.
The events took place during the month of August this year. The operator of the company Lanalden was sent to the roof of Azkuna ZENTROA to work in an exhibition, although by contract it did not have to perform the work entrusted. At a time when he was alone, a man hurled over him and sexually assaulted him, causing him violent death. The woman complained about sexual assault in the family home.
According to the union, Azkuna ZENTROA did not take any action in relation to the aggression and the following day he sent the worker back to perform the same work under the same conditions. LAB says the center had a protocol against sexual harassment, but it didn't start it. The trade union has accused the company of ignoring its responsibilities as a result of the inactivation of the protocol and of not having concerned itself with the safety of women and the possible psychological consequences that they might suffer.
They have also denounced that Azkuna ZENTROA has not reported the facts and have therefore denounced the facts. Due to the silence of the aggression, Lanalden was unaware of what happened until last November, “denying the exercise of the right to information and trade union functions” of the company.
