The Second Section of the Provincial Court of Navarra has sentenced the owner of the hotel Castillo de Javier, in Calle San Nicolás de Pamplona, to nine months in jail for the exploitation of workers. For six years she has not given a single holiday to a woman of Bulgarian origin.
The day of the worker was uninterrupted during the week. Between 2008 and 2015, he worked twice a day, from 8:00 to 15:00 hours, in the cleaning of rooms, from Monday to Sunday, without rest. In addition, he took care of the night shift of the hotel, from 23:00 p.m., when the reception of the property was closed, except on Saturdays, which the reception was open throughout the night. The only break was Saturday night.
Until April 2015, the employee resided in the hotel, in a narrow and closed room located on the attic of the fifth floor of the building. In a warehouse where lingerie and cleaning products were stored, an extra bed was placed. The room was not lit or ventilated outside.
