Two workers die in accidents at work in Urnieta and Amurrio
- Road accidents have occurred in the first hour of the morning of this Friday. A 59-year-old worker working at the Urnieta sports club and a 54-year-old self-employed worker performing repairs in a building in Amurrio have died in accidents at work.
Technological pavements worked for the company Zarra the deceased person in Urnieta. This is a subcontract of the company Miguel Imaz that was working on a reform of the municipal sports company for the City Council of Urnieta. The causes of the accident have not yet been fully determined, but according to ELA, “at work they were working on the demolition of the concrete and one of the truck’s arms has lost balance and moved the pen [crane], which has hit the worker and caused him death.”
A 54-year-old worker, a neighbor of Amurrio, died this Friday as he fell from the scaffold he was working on. The accident took place at 10:30 hours in the works of a building located on Goiena Street. Osalan has taken over the investigation to try to clarify the causes of death.
The ELA trade union has also recalled that 52 people have died in Euskal Herria so far this year. It has denounced the precariousness of the construction sector and the continuing violations of the law in the areas of work and prevention, the harsh working conditions and the high pressure of workers: “They become the perfect cocktail for claims, as has happened in this case.”
At 13:00, according to LAB in a tweet, a complaint rally will be held with the Urnieta City Council convened by the Basque trade union majority.
