The Ertzaintza reports that worker B.F. was 34 years old. When Zeleta worked in the quarry, he was captured by a stone who died. LAB denounces the accident and says they have put “time and time again” on the table that these accidents can be avoided if preventive measures are complied with. In Euskal Herria, 52 workers have died from work accidents this year, five of them in August.
The union underlines that the quarry belongs to the Amenabar group and argues that in addition to environmental violations they also know that occupational health regulations are not being complied with. The union expresses to the Basque Government that it is partly to blame: “By making a cruel use of the means it has for the control of employers and compliance with occupational health regulations, it distorts that same execution and the employer continues to act as it likes.”
The union calls for participation in the mobilizations convened by the trade union majority to support family and friends and to demand that “measures be taken once and for all”.
