The accident took place on Wednesday afternoon, at 18:00 hours, according to the Ertzaintza report. The 50-year-old worker fell to the water from the boat on the Gaviota oil rig, near the coast of Bermeo. The rescue was carried out and the worker was taken out of unconscious water, being transferred to another boat, where he was admitted. Onsite, the emergency services confirmed the death of the worker, who was taken to the hospital.
The Gaviota platform is a natural gas storage managed by the company Enegas. It is about eight kilometers from the coast, and although the helicopter is the place where the workers go, the supply work is carried out on board.
With this accident, there are twelve workers who died this year in Euskal Herria in an occupational accident.
