According to the LAB trade union, a 38-year-old worker died in the Port of Bilbao on the afternoon of 20 May. The operator of the company Vulcanizados Retuerto has suffered a fall and has been uneasy. In Euskal Herria there are already 32 dead workers and two of the Zaldibar workers are still missing.
The union has recalled that this year two workers have lost their lives in the Port of Bilbao: a 60-year-old worker died in the Zamakona shipyard in February.
LAB has denounced that "violence at work is a serious problem, a structural problem, a direct consequence of the neoliberal policy imposed on us. Occupational accidents are the result of the conditions and forms of work imposed on us by the employer when it comes to working, precariousness makes us sick and kills us". The most responsible for the general strike is "the employer", ha a? Adido: "Today, our illness and our death go out to him cheaply, and as long as this is the case, things will not change. The attitude of public administrations is deplorable, their passivity makes them an accomplice. We asked the Basque Government what changes and what steps it is prepared to take to end this massacre," he added.
The union calls for the fight and the organisation for a new model "which prioritizes the lives and health of workers". "The change will come from the modification of the rules of the game and of labor relations."
