The LAB trade union has reported the death on Wednesday. According to the information given by the public, the worker has died as a result of a non-traumatic occupational accident and a heart attack. The accident occurred at the Pepsico company in Etxebarri Ibiña and the worker was in his position at the time of the accident. She is the 26th female worker who died this year in Euskal Herria.
The union reports that the workers of the company report high workloads and rates. In this sense, they indicate that it is not surprising that "due to risk factors at work, cardiovascular problems increase and affects quality of life. In this case until death." In fact, the trade union has underlined that rising labour burdens and pressures have become an obvious occupational risk factor. Data from occupational accidents prove this: this year, at the level of the Basque Country, seven people have died in their jobs as a result of non-traumatic occupational accidents, "due to occupational causes that cause cardiovascular problems".
LAB calls on the administrations to "explain and take immediate action, to provide real control and concrete policies to deal with this scourge of accidents at work and occupational diseases".
They announce that the Pepsico Committee will convene mobilizations in the next few hours and encourage them to participate in them.
