The union of self-employed transporters of Euskal Herria Hiru has made known what happened and made it public. The worker died Monday as a result of a heart attack, according to the same source. The man, born of Irun and 54 years old, was a carrier, and has died on the spot. He worked as a freelance for the transport company Campezo and transported material to asphalt the A-8 motorway.
The HIRU trade union has indicated that the death of the worker is not natural, but due to the working conditions that exist. In addition, he stressed that due to the spread of the coronavirus the worker should not be working because the work he was doing was not a priority.
In the words of the union, “the administrations look to the other side, do not want to be held responsible for the real situation, but it is clear that, over and over again, they put the economy, production, above the health of the workers”.
HIRU has demanded that the Basque Government take measures to prevent accidents at work in Basque companies. They have pointed out that 20 workers have died in an occupational accident in Euskal Herria this year, two of whom are still buried underground, in reference to the two who disappeared in the waste of the Zaldibar dump.
