The unions ELA, LAB, ESK, STEILAS, EHNE and HIRU have called for mobilisation under the slogan “Precarious killer, no more accidents at work!”. The concentration will be held on Thursday in Bilbao, at 18:30 a.m., at the Arriaga. “We are tired of the words of discontent and solidarity of the institutional leaders, it is time for action,” said LAB in a statement made public to publicize the mobilization.
The union has underlined that those responsible for the occupational deaths are the employers and the Basque Government “fully aligned with this”.
LAB referred to the case of the Zaldibar landfill. He pointed out that the workers who have worked on the site have worked for years at risk, as well as the workers who have been sent to work after the redundancy, to whom nothing has been mentioned about asbestos. “The only goal has been to open the freeway, to re-impose the economic perspective,” the union said. He stressed that the priorities should be: finding the two workers and ensuring transparent management for the family, colleagues and the public.
LAB has called on the Basque Government to “use all the resources it currently has to deal with precariousness” and “immediately approve an emergency plan against precariousness, in order to obtain the resources necessary to cope with this pandemic”.
