The report presented by the trade unions is divided into two parts, on the one hand, corresponding to the data obtained by the trade unions, and on the other, a reflection on the official data.

The data provided by the trade unions show that the inequality by sector is evident, since in some sectors the probability of accidental death is higher. Thus, considering the number of workers employed in each sector, the intensive forestry sector has once again left the hardest data this year, with three deaths. However, the majority of deaths have been in industry (19), with many accidents due to non-compliance with machinery regulations, with 14 deaths in transport, 11 in construction, 3 in agriculture and 2 in fishing.

The unions have used the data to denounce the situation, they say that the increase in the number of accidents does not stop, although more and more people work outside the sectors that cause traumatic accidents, that is, in the service sector, where 73% of the workers work. In addition, they also denounce the "precariousness" promoted by subcontractors, in these cases the health regulations are met to a lesser extent and this increases the number of deaths.

Mistrust of official data

In terms of official data, in 2024 companies and mutual societies recognized 102,000 accidents and half of them went down. However, the unions have criticized the fact that many of the accidents have not been recognized; as an example of this, they have mentioned the case of the 42-year-old worker who was working on construction in Irunberri on 16 September, where the accident suffered by the worker killed by the mutual society was considered an accident rather than a work accident.

The press conference is also provoked to denounce the behavior of mutual societies, since the most notable traumatic accidents in special employment centers are not recognized as accidents at work, due to the functional diversity of the workers, who take advantage of this to distract the responsibility of the company in the injury.
