La Casa de la Pueblo plans to move the soccer field, and Borda also denounces that it will take possession of a plot of 18,200 square meters of agricultural land of 40 hectares that "can still be used" for this purpose. In the video released on Wednesday and published by Naiz, the member of Lurzaindia warns that the two projects mentioned are "illegal", but that nevertheless the Casa del Pueblo de Arbona will try to do them.
The People’s Council meeting on September 23, 2024 decided: The sale by the Casa del Pueblo de Arbona of the 11,000 square meters of land where the current football field is located to the promoter EDIFIM of Bayonne for 3,000,000 euros. In addition, a plot of 18,200 square meters of cultivated land with the same promoter, about a hundred meters from this plot, would pass to the Casa del Pueblo, for 10,000 euros, to move the football field to it.
Mr. Marie-José Mialocq explains to the Mediabask media that the farmlands that Borda has mentioned belong to the APAJH association, which works for adults and young people with disabilities. According to Mialocq, the Casa del Pueblo de Arbona plans to erect buildings to serve disabled people in the area of the current sports field, as well as social housing. Mialocq says it is a “project of general interest” and confirms that these lands will no longer be used for cultivation.
Conflict with multiple precedents
Conflicts over farmland are not uncommon in Arbona and the Northern Basque Country: the People’s House decided on 15 April last year to sell land to a social landlord. The discussion was strongly condemned by the opposition and the Ostia collective, accusing the neighborhood of "eradicating farmland". On the other hand, Peio Dufau, EH Bai deputy, supported the law drafted to combat speculative pressure and protect farmland on March 11, after 203 deputies voted in favor and three against it. The law has succeeded in giving more power to the SAFER structure responsible for trade in farmland.
