Kutxabank and Global Pantelaria (association formed by the Banco de Santander and the US fund Cerberus Capital Management putre) are in the eviction procedure of two families in Galdakao. Those at risk of homelessness are a 67-year-old pensioner and a woman with her three children. The Galdakao Housing Union has tried to negotiate with Kutxabank and the Banco de Santander and Cerberus, but they have rejected all the options, as the union denounced on Monday in a press conference.
First of all, the union recalls that it is not legal to leave home to those over 60 years of age if they have unfavourable economic conditions, such as the Galdakao pensioner. The trade union has submitted supporting documents and has made various attempts at negotiation, but Kutxabank has shown his firm will to move forward in his decision. Citizens have also made protests at the bank's office under the slogan "Patxi is not going anywhere."
On the other hand, the Banco de Santander, in collaboration with the Cerberus putre fund, launched at the end of September the procedure for launching a family of three young children. The Housing Union has explained that it has made proposals for social renting to avoid dismissal, as well as the use of some empty house of the bank on its property, but the Banco de Santander and Cerberus did not want to agree anything.
Both families are victims of housing speculation, “like thousands of other citizens”. In fact, the union has announced that Kutxabank left this summer 2,500 mortgage loans in the hands of vulture funds, living from the housing trade and that they will have no problem putting families in. The same is true of the Banco de Santander, which has the world vulture fund Cerberus in the friendly real estate market. The Galdakao Housing Union has also protested there.
At the press conference, coinciding with the denunciation of two families at risk of homelessness in Gadakao, citizens have been invited to participate in the protests and resistance that are being organized in the future. At the moment, they announce that a demonstration will be held on December 15 at 19:00 from Santi Brouard Square.
