Cultural workers will go to the streets on Friday and Saturday to denounce the situation they live in
- The workers at Kulturgintza have announced several demonstrations for this Friday and Saturday, on a day marked by the crisis. This Friday, at 12:30 a.m., the SOS Kultura platform has called concentrations to denounce the death of Cabacas. On Saturday, the Kupla platform will host a car caravan.
On Friday, the SOS Kultura platform called for concentrations in the four capitals of Hego Euskal Herria in protest. They will be held at 12:30 hours in Plaza Arriaga de Bilbao, in the kiosk of the Boulevard de Donostia-San Sebastián, in the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca of Vitoria-Gasteiz and in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento de Pamplona.
The state of alarm has caused an emergency among workers in the cultural sector, but the platform has explained that not only will they meet: Prior to the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic there was already high precariousness in the sector. Therefore, beyond the state of alarm, this Friday they will meet to make it known that public institutions do not offer solutions for culture.
The mobilizations to be carried out in the four capitals will be different, but a joint manifesto will be read out.
This Saturday, for its part, the Kupla platform has called a car caravan for those affected. This partnership was born this week with the intention of bringing together technicians, companies and artists. In the first communiqué, they denounced the immobilism of public institutions and warned that if something is not done soon it will not be possible to turn the situation upside down.
This is also the message they want to share with the motorhome: They want to stage the "funeral for culture." For this, they will meet at 11:00 in front of the Gobeo Hotel in Vitoria-Gasteiz (for those who drive to the city) and at 11:45 in Lakua. On Saturday, at noon, "dead culture" will be taken out and left "to the height" of the Basque Government.
This is not the only initiative that body builders have launched in recent months: in full lockdown a digital strike was carried out to denounce the situation that many professionals in the sector were experiencing after the cancellation of the programming. The public institutions of the Basque Country announced a series of measures in the state of alarm, but they do not seem to have been sufficient to meet the needs of professionals in the sector.
