The adaptation of the French Constitution is among the steps for Corsica to have access to autonomy. The Minister of the Interior, Gerard Darmanin, has announced to Gilles Simeon, President of the Government of Corsica, that by the end of February they will begin drafting the constitutional settlement.
Once written, the Assembly of Corsica and the elected representatives of Corsica would have access to the text, with the possibility of making proposals for adaptation, and the French President, Emmanuel Macron, would have the last word. French senators and parliamentarians should vote on the text before the end of the 2024 semester. This is the agenda published on 13 February. On that day Darmanin and Simeoni meet in Paris to discuss the autonomy status of Corsica.
As soon as we know it, the Assembly of Corsica reaffirms its status: "All Island voters and agents should be involved in the drafting phase." In this respect, the Corsicans are drafting a proposal that would be supported by the Assembly of Corsica and all the political representatives of the island. On this basis, Minister Darmanin is charged with working.
