- The 22nd edition of the most massive popular initiative in favor of the Basque begins today in Amurrio, calling the Basque people HitzEkiten. From 10:00 a.m. until night, the festive and vindictive atmosphere will take over Amurrio. The central event will take place at 16:00 hours and citizenship will begin at 16:30 hours, uninterruptedly, until it reaches Donostia-San Sebastián on 10 April. ARGIA will perform a special monitoring every day.
The Euskaltzales are anxious because the pandemic has delayed the date held every two years by one year; because attacks against the Basque people are recently multiplying; because the alarms of the linguistic emergency are ignited in the learning, transmission or use of Euskera. However, sadly, Korrika comes together for two weeks enjoying the Basque, with words and deeds, as indicated in the initial message of this year’s edition:
“A language is composed of words, but initiatives build the community of a language. If the Basque country wants to go ahead, it needs Euskaldunes (pro)active that jump from conviction to action, to practice.
So, look at what we have, what we are and what we will be. You have given your word, now you jump to action. Citizens, associations, institutions -- we have to have Euskera in our mouths. It is time to act.
Time to speak. Therefore, they wake up the red alarms of the linguistic emergency. Let us address immediately: from bilaterality to commitment, and from commitment to stronger steps by all institutions to respond to the desires and needs of society.
It is essential to win this game. It is time to start, now we have to finish so much, now we have to win the game, in the 22nd minute. It is time to join KORRIKA. We will influence and act, all the students, authorities and agents, all together.

2,575 kilometres
Euskaltzales of Euskal Herria will travel 2,575 kilometers between May 31 and April 10. In Amurrio the program will start at 10:00 in the morning with street music or live performances by Aiaraldea Gaur. At 16:00, the central event will take place in the plaza, and after the end of the act, at 16:30, the citizens will start running along the road of Endordiza. In Amurrio, however, the festival will last a long time: Gozategi (on its 30th anniversary), Izate Gezsua and Dupla will give concerts starting at 18:00. The closing ceremony on 10 April in Donostia-San Sebastian will be held at 12:30 a.m. and it will then be when the witness’s message will be read. AEK, organiser of the Korrika, has for the first time created a mobile application that will allow users to know at every moment where the popular career is located.
In the Hitzekin song of the 22nd edition, Nerea Urbizu, Ane García, Anari and Subai hill participated, and AEK and the Txakur Gorria collective have created the documentary Uhinak. The honors of this year are the clowns Pirritx, Porrotx eta Marimototos: “For they have made 34 years of progress in the Basque world and, more importantly, in Basque; and because they are agents, who look to the present and the future.”
Special Monitoring for ARGIA
ARGIA will carry out a special monitoring of the career, people to people and day to day. The journalist Leire Artola will be in charge of live follow-up and reporting the stories of the protagonists who have moved from words to deeds. In the social networks of ARGIA we will disseminate both the most spectacular images and the most outstanding moments, and we will also make elaborate videos.
