The electronic medium Composteurcitizen.fr recalls that within seven months the order obliging all families to compose will enter into force, but the law is established three years ago in Law 2020-105 of February 2020, against waste and in favor of the circular economy. Accordingly, by 1 January 2024 all families must already have at their disposal a system for separating all biodegradable household waste.
The Prime Minister’s Official Gazette stated in September 2022 that “Public Schools should propose means of waste separation, appropriate containers for special collection, individual or collective composting, etc. There are many solutions for bio-waste depending on the nature of the municipalities (cities, rural) and the place of residence of the families (apartment, single house): composting of each family in its own packaging, collective packaging (grouped by buildings, streets or neighbourhoods), organisation of a special collection [refers to public schools] in large packaging, as is done with packaging and glass…”
Separation at source of organic waste was already mandatory for companies and communities that generate 10 tonnes of organic or 60 litres of oil per year. Since January of this year the obligation was extended to those who generate more than five tons of organic matter per year. Within seven months, selective collection and organic composting will be mandatory in all homes.
