As we have already said, on 21 we had a day in Errenteria in transition towards freer communication. Here's the chronicle that Badalab has made. I should like to highlight the following:
"From Thursday's sittings we draw a clear conclusion: We're going to create our own spaces. The question doesn't come out of Twitter and then what. We need to ask ourselves what spaces we want to create, what communities we want to build."
Towards a freer communication, this notes in Spanish.
Here are some of my notes.
In the morning, Rita Barrachina held a communication workshop with digital free culture in Torrekua.
The Barrachina indicated that normally what has occurred in the two hour and half intervals is divided into four days. Therefore, he had to focus his training. The material is available in the Komunikilo Click section.
I know a few Esperantists, but those I know are turning around the words. For example, he chose the word eutopia (because it is a good place) and dismissed utopia (because it is a space). Eutopic digitalisation would be feasible. Or something like that.
He told us that the literature is against the technocatastrophist and that we have to deal with the lack of hope by building things.
It also expanded the concept of Ecolobit (ecology and bit) as well as the work on nodes that your computer or you can control. As much as possible on the premises. We've been fooled very well by the concept of cloud: the cloud is on the ground and consumes a lot of resources. He liked the nebula to define this situation.
Are we to reach everyone on private social platforms? Oh, yeah? And how do we reach people with visual or hearing impairment if we don't properly label and describe the content?
The tender tone he gave to the personite word was also curious.
When he developed the issue of licenses, he mentioned the Missionary Church of Copameism.
It also listed the RAP measures, an initiative of the Résistance à l’Agression Publicitaire Association, founded in France in 1992. This is how Badalab summarizes in the chronicle:
The food was made in Badalabe (very rich, the food prepared by the Zutene Cooperative).
The first speaker in the afternoon was Shine McShine. He entered Catalonia via a video call. Debates of the European Parliament How to move towards free communication.
The words of the other rapporteurs are in pdf, but not those of Shine. I'm going to throw a few ideas here.
This professor and activist came to have 173,000 followers on Twitter. Its activity was particularly highlighted at the time of the pandemic.
That fueled that Ego forage, though it now has shame: millions of reproductions, messages from known people and editorials... But a few months ago he refused to be influencer.
When he left, some came to Mastodon. But this network is not suitable for those seeking great virality. Some of his companions had left quite quickly.
Shine has lost the impact, but has found more sites and better sites for activism. After all, sweetness.
The worst of the evils in the world is Elon Musk. We must not forget that the extreme right bought Twitter for EUR 44 billion.
That's right, Shine said he understood that journalists were on Twitter: If public figures such as Sánchez are used to express themselves, they should be aware of this.
Bluesky added that it has dark funding and defined it as a centralized network.
It was in Catalan at the same headquarters of Marcel Costa Badalab: Rethinking social media metrics (pdf presentation).
He looked at the metrics he had used so far, and then he looked at the metrics of Marta G. To put a paragraph by Franco: it mentioned the Internet of yesteryear, how it was a network not connected to the algorithm and there we had other relationships.
At the end of September El Salto hung on several platforms the results of the survey to leave Twitter or not. Most of them asked them to settle there.
Centralizing vs. non-centralizing metrics. Who are the latter interested in? Associations, bookshops, journalists, catalysts of communities...
We need to value the quality of communications, not just the quantity.
Marta G. Franco has a close relationship with the Basque Country. He participated a month ago in the Euskarabildua Conference, was interviewed by Axier López in Argia and the bilbain editorial Consonni has published the book The Networks Are Us.
At Topo I read the interview of José Durán to El Salto, from San Sebastian to Errenteria. There is also a newsletter in @teclista: Our networks. Today, on the 27th, Berria published the interview that Kristina Martin had given to journalists in charge of interviewing the protagonists.
Marta's profile is interesting: He was in Indymedia, also in @acampadasol around May 15, 2011, when Carmena was Mayor of Madrid, and returned to the activism he has never ruled out (The Intersection). He flees from Madrid and lives in Lisbon.
You can see the presentation of post-Twitter communication strategies (pdf).
He released four assurances:
1.- Cultural war is not done (alone) with social networks. They're coordinated strategies: media, tertullians, fake news, power centers, etc.
2.- Virality does not serve us to communicate: spaces under algorithms are inadequate, not welcoming. There are also evils who want to leave the place.
3.- We need spaces to instill the community on small fire: the fediverse is an ideal place for it.
4.- It is necessary to broaden the governance of the Fediberta: for its democratic ethics and to strengthen that space. It considers the network of governance of the fá bula.Como necessary, it has been said, Lisbon is its home and its Iberian network.
These are mine. I haven't thought enough, but I'm going to throw them here.
1.- The first citizens we walked in two or three networks, institutions, companies, etc. This is over: X, FB, Instagram, Threads, Tik Tok, Linkedin, Mastodon, Blue Sky. Do you have to be in everything? Institutions, businesses, etc. They would need a lot of people to feed them. In addition, except the fediverse (Mastodon), you work for the enemy (Infowars case).
2.- In any case, I have seen that some media and institutions do not close Twitter and are repeating the same in Blue Sky, for example. In this sense, this reflection by Gerardo Tecé is the experience of ctxt.
3.- In the days of Errenteria told me a person with responsibilities in a medium of communication, that we should already position ourselves in the time after the private social networks.
4.- It has been created using Mastodon Matx.eus, a local sports social network.
5. They must come from outside to tell us what we have to do. That is how we are. We don't serve the natives. That is to say, in Catalonia we are listening to the Basques, in the Basque Country to the Catalans.
6.- Two links as tip: baga, Pedro Lázaro Rodríguez, Professor of Library Economics; biga, Daniel Gil, Librarian.
The evolution that the Internet has taken over the last 15 years, together with its technological and business model, makes us think that it is a tool to increase the worst aspects of humanity. Around the world, agents have been created that are not satisfied with this idea... [+]
In spaces like the X, today, we will have to recognize that it is impossible to have a public debate and a cultural struggle. In this sense, a mistake is that political projects that intend to lead a leftist change leave platforms like X to make the leap to social networks that... [+]
