Lack of Basque journalists in Iparralde: start offering training
- The media asked: Basque journalists are missing in Iparralde. Thanks to the collaboration between three universities, the studies will be conducted in Baiona, where practices and studies will be alternated for two years.
The media of the Northern Basque Country reported difficulties in detecting Vasco-speaking journalists and went to the Basque Public Institution PPE in 2020. The EEP reached an agreement with the University of Pau and Aturrialde, the Institute of Journalism Bordele-Aquitaine and the University of the Basque Country. Three years ago, reflection began among the different actors, who have intervened manually in academic preparation.
In Baiona journalism will be studied in Basque this course and the next; it will be a two-year learning process. The studies of the UPV/EHU are four years, but arguing a greater need in the diagnosis of the Northern Basque Country, they think it is closer in time. Twenty people signed up and eleven have been selected. In May, a forum was organized in which the media met and the students presented to each of the media, and then the media selected the students they learned for two years. The media will pay students a minimum wage.
