The Kellyen Union of Catalonia has launched a collection to finance the project of the Kelly Reserve Centre in Catalonia. They want to get at least 60,000 euros to create a platform similar to that of Booking, an ethical platform that includes hotels free of exploitation. The aim of the project is for people to stay in hotels that meet the quality standards and that have Kelly’s trade union representation.
The Kellyen Trade Union of Catalonia wanted to reclaim the initiative that began at the Generalitat in 2018 but which was then paralysed. In fact, that year Catalunya in Comú proposed the Fair and Quality Work Seal for the hotels, which was approved in the Parliament of Catalonia. However, Kelly believes that only a few steps have been taken to combat the precariousness of apartment and hotel cleaners, so they have assumed the responsibility of taking the initiative forward.
The Fair and Quality Work Stamp would ensure that in the hotels that carry it, cleaners are hired in compliance with their agreement and do not subcontract these services. In addition, it would ensure that the law on prevention of occupational risks, that there is no gender pay gap, that people are hired from vulnerable groups, or that employment contracts are indefinite.
The union has announced that as soon as the minimum budget for starting the project is achieved, the platform will be created, which they would like to have ready by 2022. They wanted to stress that the project will not be confined to Catalonia, but will be carried out in Catalonia.
