In the statement, ETXERAT says it has suffered damage to the left part of the body due to the stroke, especially in the leg and hand. ETXERAT has transferred the responsibility of family members, as in addition to being the prisoner away from home, the faster a hospital is better for the patient's health.

On May 21, Atxurra returned to jail eight days after the stroke. The young woman has been visited by two family members last weekend, for a period of 40 minutes. His family members have stated that he is admitted to the ward and that his mood is good, so he has no prognosis.

ETXERAT wanted to convey to the family of Atxurra all its support and solidarity with its neighbours. He has stated that the current situation makes the reality of the prisoner very difficult, as he has not had the opportunity to communicate with his relatives for two months. They added that parents are the elderly and that it is very difficult for them to make a trip of 1,020 kilometres. The prisoner of Lekeitio has been in the first grade for 24 years, when he was found to be seriously ill.

ETXERAT concluded by saying that the situation of Atxurra and the rest of the prisoners must be put to an end, and called for the rapprochement of all of them and the release of seriously ill prisoners and those over the age of 65. The association has pointed out that 80 per cent of Basque prisoners imprisoned in the Spanish State are far from their family, with a distance of between 400 and 1,000 kilometres.
